Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to ensure that prospective mathematics teachers acquire theoretical knowledge, pedagogical approaches, and practical skills related to the teaching of statistics and probability. The course aims to equip teacher candidates with knowledge in data collection, data organization, interpreting graphs and tables, measures of central tendency and dispersion, the concept of probability, experimental and theoretical probability, dependent and independent events, and common misconceptions encountered in probability instruction.

Course Content

The role and importance of teaching statistics and probability in mathematics education; the concept of data; data collection, organization, and representation; teaching tables, graphs, and diagrams; measures of central tendency; measures of range and dispersion; statistical thinking and interpretation skills; the concept of probability; experimental and theoretical probability; sample space, events, and dependent and independent events; the use of materials and technology in probability instruction; conceptual misunderstandings in statistics and probability; designing activities based on real-life situations; aligning with curriculum objectives; developing assessment tools and implementing microteaching.
