Course Goal / Objective
e aim of this course is for students to gain an understanding of the fundamental properties and measurement of matter from atom to molecule, the ability to translate qualitative concepts into quantitative results, and to comprehend the properties and identification of biomolecules in biological materials.
Course Content
This course will cover the following topics: fundamental properties and measurement of matter from atom to molecule, chemical compounds, chemical reactions, aqueous solution reactions, chemical bonds, liquids, solids and intermolecular forces, solutions and their physical properties, the biochemical significance of cells and cellular organelles, the structures, properties, identification, biological functions of water and electrolytes, carbohydrates, lipids, amino acids, proteins, enzymes, vitamins, and nucleic acids, and biochemical analyses used in the diagnosis of diseases related to the metabolism of biomolecules.
