Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to examine the formation, key concepts, principles, theoretical background, and contemporary impacts of 19th-century German legal theory within the context of historical consciousness.

Course Content

This course covers the development of German legal theory, fundamental doctrines of the Historical School of Law, the reception of Roman law, the transformation of German law, and its impacts on contemporary legal systems. The teachings of Savigny and the Historical School, Hegel's philosophy of law, the formation of the German Civil Code (BGB), and the influence of these developments on Swiss and Turkish legal systems will be explored.
