Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to critically analyze theories and models in psychiatric and mental health nursing, integrate them into clinical practice, and develop theory-based nursing care plans.

Course Content

This course covers the fundamental concepts of theories and models in psychiatric and mental health nursing, including the classification and development of nursing theories. Major theoretical frameworks such as interpersonal relations theory, self-care deficit theory, adaptation model, systems model, and holistic approaches are examined in detail. Contemporary approaches including goal attainment theory, middle-range theories, and the recovery model are also discussed and integrated with clinical practice through the biopsychosocial model, trauma-informed care, and cultural care frameworks. The impact of theoretical models on clinical decision-making is emphasized, aiming to enable students to develop and implement theory-based nursing care plans.
