Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to equip students with a holistic design perspective grounded in the five senses and the ability to conceptualize space as a sensory experience. The course aims to enable students to analyze users’ psychological and physiological responses within a space, guide the effects of sensory stimuli on spatial perception, and generate inclusive design solutions.
Course Content
The theoretical foundations of sensory design; phenomenological approaches to spatial perception; the concept of design beyond the sense of sight (multisensory design); the sensory responses to the interplay of light, shadow, and color in interior spaces; the sense of touch and haptic perception; spatial acoustics and the design of silence; the relationship between scent and memory. The course includes sensory analyses of sample spaces, sensory mapping techniques, and exercises in creating atmospheres aimed at evoking specific emotional states.
Course Precondition
There are no prerequisites for this course.
