Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to equip students with the ability to conduct a multidimensional analysis by integrating interior design with insights from interrelated disciplines such as sociology, psychology, anthropology, technology, and art. The course aims to help students develop the ability to translate interdisciplinary concepts into spatial parameters and to generate innovative design methodologies through collaborative work with experts from various fields.

Course Content

The concept of interdisciplinarity in design and its theoretical framework; the socio-cultural construction of space and its anthropological codes; the parametric use of behavioral science and psychological data in spatial perception; the adaptation of biological and ecological systems to space; the contribution of narrative arts such as literature, cinema, and theater to spatial composition; the synchronization of technology and engineering disciplines—such as lighting, acoustics, and structural engineering—with the core concept of design. As part of the course, students engage in interdisciplinary metaphor development and conceptual modeling exercises, transforming a concept selected from a non-design field into a spatial form.

Course Learning Outcomes

Order Course Learning Outcomes
LO01 Defines the interaction between interior architecture and other disciplines (sociology, psychology, art, etc.).
LO02 Explains the contribution of design methods from different disciplines to spatial configuration.
LO03 Expresses the importance and necessity of interdisciplinary collaboration in the design process.
LO04 Creates a spatial analysis model using theoretical knowledge gained from different fields.
LO05 Transforms art and science-oriented approaches into design concepts.
LO06 Applies data obtained from an interdisciplinary perspective to space design decisions.
LO07 Explains how hybrid methods in design increase the aesthetic and functional value of the space.
LO08 Creates multidisciplinary solution proposals for complex design problems.
