Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to enable students to identify scientific research problems in education and the social sciences, systematically and critically review the relevant literature, select appropriate research methods and plan data collection procedures, and prepare scientific research/project proposals. The course also aims to develop students' ability to plan research in accordance with ethical principles, use scientific sources effectively, apply academic writing and referencing conventions, and evaluate research/project proposals according to scientific criteria.

Course Content

The nature and fundamental concepts of scientific research; the scientific research process and types of research; identifying research topics and problems; research aims, research questions, and hypotheses; literature searches in academic databases; evaluation and synthesis of scientific literature; research ethics, academic integrity, plagiarism, and the ethical use of generative artificial intelligence; quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research; population, sampling, and study groups; data collection methods and instruments; validity, reliability, and trustworthiness in qualitative research; basic approaches to data analysis; scientific reporting and APA 7 referencing conventions; scientific project preparation; formulation of aims and objectives; work plans, timelines, budgets, outputs, and broader impact; preparation, presentation, and evaluation of research/project proposals.
