Course Goal / Objective

The aim is to guide nursing doctoral students in evaluating situations that fall under the scope of malpractice during their nursing-specific work experiences and taking the necessary precautions to avoid professional errors; thus ensuring the safety of their patients, themselves, and other healthcare professionals.

Course Content

The concept of rights, human and patient rights, rights of healthcare professionals, patient safety, safety of healthcare professionals, faults and responsibility, the pessimistic framework of medical error, faults and responsibility, legal responsibility of healthcare professionals, distinction between medical error and complications, medical error and risk management, criminal sanctions for medical error, situations frequently encountered by nurses regarding medical errors, professional liability insurance, case studies and analysis, case report.
