Course Goal / Objective

To provide the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to understand the bacterial genome organisation, gene regulation, horizontal gene transfer mechanisms, and principles and applications of modern molecular genetics techniques, and to evaluate genetic approaches in clinical microbiology and biotechnology.

Course Content

This lecture covers the theoretical foundations of bacterial genetic organisation, gene expression, gene transfer mechanisms, and modern molecular genetics techniques. It also focuses on the clinical and research applications of genomics, transcriptomics, and gene editing technologies.

Course Learning Outcomes

Order Course Learning Outcomes
LO01 Analyzes bacterial genome organization and gene expression mechanisms at an advanced level.
LO02 Explains the genetic basis and dissemination mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance (particularly Horizontal Gene Transfer) and interprets them in a clinical context.
LO03 Evaluates the genetic regulation of virulence factors and host–pathogen interactions at the molecular level.
LO04 Selects and compares molecular genetic techniques (e.g., Polymerase Chain Reaction, sequencing technologies, CRISPR-Cas System) for appropriate research and diagnostic purposes.
LO05 Analyzes and interprets molecular data (e.g., PCR, NGS) obtained in clinical microbiology laboratories.
LO06 Evaluates infection spread and outbreaks using molecular epidemiology approaches.
LO07 Critically analyzes current scientific literature and develops original research questions.
LO08 Designs a molecular genetics–based research study and presents its findings scientifically.
