Course Goal / Objective
This course aims to examine, both theoretically and practically, the relationship between generative artificial intelligence tools and textile design, fiber art, experimental surface production, and contemporary art practices. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to develop an understanding of the role of generative artificial intelligence in visual, conceptual, and design-oriented production processes; to establish connections between traditional and contemporary textile techniques and AI-assisted production possibilities; and to cultivate a critical perspective on issues such as ethics, copyright, originality, and human–AI collaboration.
Course Content
Within the scope of this course, the concept of generative artificial intelligence, AI-assisted art and design production, and digital/experimental production processes in the context of textile design and fiber art will be addressed. Traditional textile techniques, along with explorations of motif, texture, surface, material, and composition, will be examined in relation to generative AI tools. Students will engage in practices such as prompt writing, visual analysis, the development of AI-assisted sketches, experimental material explorations, and the creation of contemporary modes of exhibition. Throughout the course, issues such as human–AI collaboration, originality, ethics, copyright, the digital transformation of cultural heritage, and emerging forms of production in contemporary textile art will be discussed.
