Course Goal / Objective

To provide students with the ability to evaluate the environmental, social, and economic dimensions of mining activities within the framework of sustainability principles. To introduce sectoral sustainability practices and innovative technologies. To develop ethical decision-making skills in complex problems encountered in professional life by ensuring the comprehension of universal and professional ethical rules required by the engineering profession.

Course Content

The concept of sustainable development in mining engineering, environmental and social impacts of mining. Environmental management systems, mine closure, and land rehabilitation planning. Circular economy, waste management, and modern sectoral technologies enhancing sustainability in the mining industry. The concept of social license to operate. Introduction to engineering ethics, professional responsibilities, ethical decision-making processes, and case studies related to mining ethics.
