Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with fundamental knowledge and awareness of occupational health and safety risks that may arise in environmental engineering practices. Within the scope of the course, students are expected to comprehend the principles of safe working in relation to laboratory studies, domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants, drinking water treatment plants, fieldwork, sampling procedures, operation and maintenance activities, and emergency management. Upon successful completion of the course, students are expected to be able to identify hazards and risks associated with environmental engineering practices, explain the basic principles of risk assessment, evaluate the appropriate use of personal protective equipment, and develop professional behaviours consistent with a culture of occupational safety.

Course Content

This course covers an introduction to occupational health and safety, fundamental OHS concepts, sources of risk in environmental engineering practices, risk assessment, and the use of personal protective equipment. Within the scope of the course, laboratory studies, domestic and industrial wastewater treatment plants, drinking water treatment plants, operation and maintenance processes in treatment facilities, sampling and fieldwork activities, and emergency management are also addressed from the perspective of environmental engineering practices.
