Course Goal / Objective

The primary objective of this course is to equip students with the technical English proficiency necessary to follow fundamental concepts, terminology, and processes in the field of machinery and manufacturing technologies at an international standard. Throughout the course, emphasis will be placed on the correct use of technical terms related to machining (turning, milling, drilling), non-machining (casting, forging, welding), and modern manufacturing techniques (CNC, additive manufacturing); and the development of students' ability to analyze technical documents, user manuals, and material catalogs will be prioritized. By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to describe manufacturing processes in English, interpret technical diagrams, and follow global industry developments through relevant literature.

Course Content

The Professional English II course aims to equip students in the machine program with a command of technical terminology in manufacturing technologies and the language proficiency to follow international literature. The course covers fundamental manufacturing processes such as casting, forging, machining (turning, milling, grinding), and welding methods, as well as modern manufacturing techniques like CNC machining and additive manufacturing (3D printers), all explained using English terminology. Students learn the technical equivalents of material properties, measurement and control tools, and occupational safety concepts, thereby developing their skills in reading technical drawings, identifying machine parts, and expressing production flowcharts in English.

LO03 By analyzing English-language technical manuals and machine catalogs regarding manufacturing methods, it synthesizes the necessary information flawlessly.
LO04 They can discuss the properties of materials used in manufacturing processes and appropriate production methods for these materials, using data from English-language literature.
LO05 Prepares short technical reports and workplace correspondence covering technical issues encountered on the production line or quality control processes, in accordance with professional English standards.
