Course Goal / Objective
The aim of this course is to develop pre-service teachers’ scientific thinking and research literacy skills and to enable them to approach educational problems from a scientific perspective and understand fundamental research processes. The course aims to help students identify researchable problems, locate and evaluate scientific sources, formulate research questions, distinguish among research approaches and designs, select appropriate sampling and data collection methods, interpret research findings at a basic level, and examine and evaluate scientific research in accordance with ethical principles.
Course Content
Basic characteristics of science, scientific knowledge, and scientific research; scientific thinking and the research process; identification of educational research problems; research purposes, research questions, and hypotheses; accessing scientific sources and conducting literature reviews; research ethics and academic integrity; APA 7 citation and referencing principles; basic characteristics of quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods research approaches; introduction to quantitative and qualitative research designs; population, sample, and basic sampling methods; data collection methods and instruments; validity, reliability, and quality in qualitative research; basic analysis, presentation, and interpretation of quantitative and qualitative data; structure of scientific research reports; and examination and evaluation of educational research and scientific articles.
