Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to enable counselor candidates to understand psychological counseling and guidance services provided in higher education institutions, recognize the developmental characteristics and needs of university students, and develop preventive, developmental, and intervention-oriented counseling services suitable for higher education settings. The course also addresses current psychosocial issues affecting university students, including online relationships, loneliness, dating violence, future uncertainty, and digital burnout.

Course Content

Historical development of psychological counseling and guidance services in higher education; developmental characteristics and needs of university students; adjustment to university life; academic, career, and personal-social guidance services; structure and functioning of university counseling centers; psychological resilience; online relationships and digital communication; loneliness and sense of belonging; dating violence and healthy relationship development; digital burnout; future uncertainty and career anxiety; crisis intervention; preventive mental health services; common psychological problems among university students; ethical principles; inclusive counseling practices; and current counseling models and practices in higher education.
