Course Goal / Objective

To provide systematic practice in professional and academic spoken interactions (meetings, presentations, and debates). To develop functional language usage for signposting presentations, expressing diplomatic disagreement, hedging statements, and seeking clarification. To enhance phonetic clarity, sentence stress, and thought-grouping to ensure international intelligibility. To foster critical thinking and source-based argumentation skills through current, real-world multidisciplinary themes. To build confidence in responding to questions and offering constructive feedback within collaborative environments.

Course Content

This course is designed to equip undergraduate students from all disciplines with essential spoken communication skills required for workplace and academic environments. Students transition from everyday conversation to structured, persuasive oral interaction. Grounded in realistic professional and academic scenarios—such as project presentations, group discussions, and structured debates—the curriculum focuses on three core pillars: • Discussion Skills: Managing meetings, negotiating, intervening diplomatically, and reaching consensus. • Presentation Skills: Structuring ideas logically, explaining data/trends, engaging the audience, and managing Q&A sessions. • Debate & Argumentation Skills: Presenting evidence-based arguments, refuting claims politely, and defending one's position under questioning.
