Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to introduce undergraduate students from all disciplines to the concept of geological time and the fundamental principles of geochronology. The course helps students understand Earth’s formation, the temporal dimension of geological processes, and the basic logic of relative and absolute dating methods. It is designed for non-specialist students and requires no prior background knowledge.

Course Content

Concept of geological time, development of the geological time scale, principles of relative dating (stratigraphy and fossils), fundamentals of radioactivity, radiometric dating methods (C-14, K-Ar, U-Pb), applications of geochronological techniques, calibration of the geological time scale, and dating of major events in Earth history.
