Course Goal / Objective

The goal is to use the botanical garden as a living laboratory to enable students to identify plant diversity, conduct hands-on studies of plants of medicinal and economic importance, and acquire interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in plant identification, cultivation, and sustainable use.

Course Content

Using the botanical garden as a living education and research laboratory; plant diversity and collection management; identification of plants of medicinal, aromatic, and economic importance in their natural habitats; examination of the morphological and taxonomic characteristics of plants; plant identification methods; herbarium techniques; plant cultivation, care, and propagation practices; ecological and phenological observations; sustainable plant conservation and biodiversity; the parts of medicinal plants used for medicinal purposes, and the relationship between active compounds and plant development; educational, research, and public awareness initiatives in botanical gardens; applied fieldwork, plant identification, and student project presentations.

LO02 It evaluates plants of medical, aromatic, and economic importance in terms of their uses and cultivation characteristics.
LO03 Performs basic botanical tasks such as plant identification, herbarium preparation, and record-keeping.
LO04 It evaluates the botanical garden in terms of education, research, biodiversity conservation, and sustainability.
LO05 In the hands-on activities conducted at the botanical garden, students make scientific observations, analyze the data they collect, and present their findings orally or in writing.
