The aim is to train highly sought-after employees with high employment potential who have learned and internalized the relevant concepts and terminology in the field of welding technologies, possess the ability to recognize and implement new systems needed in this sector, have the skills to solve and generate solutions to problems that may arise both during and after the welding process, are equipped to quickly meet the needs of the sector, can advance the existing traditional welding sector from its current state, and have the awareness to take part in job preparation, design and operation systems, including quality assurance.

Feature & Definition

The importance of welding technology technicians, especially within production technology, is considerable. A well-trained welding technology technician plays a major role in increasing efficiency in businesses. Therefore, individuals who graduate from Vocational High Schools and subsequently Vocational Colleges with a welding technology program and obtain the title of welding technology technician acquire the following knowledge and skills: Understanding fundamental knowledge in the field of machinery Being able to identify the properties of the materials used Being able to perform and apply computer-aided design and construction related to the shaping of metallic materials Being able to troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions of welding machines Having theoretical knowledge and practical skills in oxy-gas, electric arc, soldering, stud welding, resistance welding, submerged arc welding, MIG-MAG, tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding, plasma transfer arc (PTA) welding, laser welding, and solid-state welding Knowing and applying basic processes used in shaping metals Knowing heat treatment techniques applied to metals Acquiring the knowledge and experience to troubleshoot malfunctions in machinery.

Goals

Our associate degree program is designed to provide students with professional experience in welding technology. Courses include not only theoretical knowledge but also various applications, experimental studies, teamwork, and projects. The goal is to train qualified technical personnel who possess advanced knowledge and skills in manufacturing technologies, particularly welded manufacturing technologies, enabling them to effectively manage R&D, design, production, materials science, and quality control processes in businesses and institutions. The welding associate degree program consists of 4 semesters (2 years). Each student is required to complete both on-the-job training (3+1) and theoretical courses.

Objectives

The program aims to provide an educational infrastructure that is based on the culture and values ​​of universal science and contemporary education in the field of welding technology, follows technological developments, and meets the needs of the age; to strengthen our educational activities with the participation of our stakeholders; to provide a leading education at national and international levels that can implement innovations and produce solutions to the problems of society; and thus to train highly qualified welding technicians.

Specific Admission Requirements

Admission to the program is based on a central examination administered by the Measurement, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM). The program accepts students based on their TYT (Basic Proficiency Test) score and offers a two-year associate degree program. To be admitted to the Welding Technology Program, students must have a calculated TYT score from the Higher Education Institutions Examination. Students with calculated TYT scores are placed in their preferred program through the central placement process conducted by ÖSYM, according to their ranking.

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

Students graduate from this program by completing 120 ECTS credits. To graduate, students must successfully complete all courses in the program and achieve a weighted grade point average of at least 2.0 out of 4.00. They must also successfully complete a 30-day professional internship and a one-semester workplace training program. Graduates receive an associate degree in Welding Technology. This degree allows them to work in the industry as a Welding Technician. The diploma supplement will list the courses demonstrating the competencies acquired during the program.

Access to Further Studies

Graduates of the Welding Technology Program have a wide range of fields they can enroll in if they pass the Vertical Transfer Exam (DGS). These 4-year undergraduate programs are: Materials Science and Engineering Materials Engineering Metallurgy and Materials Engineering

Internship

Internships are practical and applied training that students undertake in the relevant sector. In the AOSB Technical Sciences Vocational School programs, internships are included in the curriculum as an Industry-Based Education course. Internships will be conducted on dates announced by the Vocational School Directorate, and the internship period cannot be less than 30 working days, depending on the nature of the program. It is advisable to complete the internship during the summer break at the end of the first year. Otherwise, the student may lose a semester or a year. The aims of the industry-based training studies for students of the Welding Technology Program are as follows: - To develop and reinforce the professional knowledge given in accordance with the first and second year curricula through applications during the internship. - To become familiar with the organization, structure, and systems in the potential workplaces where they will work after entering the workforce. - To become familiar with the authority and responsibilities they will undertake as Welding Technicians in businesses, to gain harmonious working habits with upper and lower-level personnel, and to develop good managerial qualities, while also preparing themselves for a good employment environment.

Applied Course

The practical parts of the courses include laboratory and workshop activities.

Work Placement

Our college has been implementing the 3+1 workplace training program since the Spring semester of 2018-2019. Within the scope of workplace training, students work in businesses four days a week for one semester (15 weeks). The aim of workplace training is to: - Allow students to become familiar with workplaces related to their associate degree program, observing the hierarchical structure, organizational system, work discipline, and occupational health and safety rules in these workplaces. - To reinforce the knowledge, skills, and competencies they have gained during their studies by practicing, closely observing the work of sector employees, increasing their business experience, and familiarizing themselves with the work they will be doing. - To enable them to use and apply the theoretical knowledge they have acquired. - To develop a common language with workplace managers, employees, and other relevant individuals, and to improve their workplace communication skills. - To keep them informed about current technologies related to their profession and to teach them respect for professional ethics. Double Major, Additional Major & Exchange Possibilities

Students in the Welding Technology Program may study for one or two semesters at other higher education institutions, either domestically or internationally, in accordance with agreements and protocols established between these institutions. These students are required to have successfully completed all previous academic activities. The equivalence of the courses, practical work, internships, and similar activities that students will undertake at these exchange institutions to their own curriculum is determined in advance by the relevant board of directors, based on the recommendation of the advisor and the relevant department head/program advisor. Exchange programs differ in their aims and procedures.

Employment Opportunities

The Welding Technology Program curriculum is largely geared towards training qualified personnel for the Machine Manufacturing and Machine Maintenance sectors. The professional competencies and personal development training provided in the program offer broad career opportunities. Graduates can work in the manufacturing, maintenance and repair, and quality control departments of factories operating in the public and industrial sectors, filling the need for intermediate personnel (technicians) between engineers and technicians. Depending on the structure of the institution they work for and their area of ​​expertise, they can perform all kinds of manufacturing, service, and organizational tasks. Technicians can also open their own private businesses if they wish.
