Course Goal

To introduce characterization methods used to determine the characteristics of archaeological findings.

Course Content

Information about course content and operation. Introduction to archaeometry. What is archeometry. Importance of archaeological materials. The relationship of archeometry with archeology, art history and natural sciences. Archaeological findings- Paint, Ceramics, Glass, Metal, Alloy, Wood, Bone etc. Corrosion of metallic materials. Ceramic and glass raw materials from archaeological findings. History, culture and technology of archaeological findings. Characterization Techniques. Microstructural features, chemical composition and production technology of archaeological finds. Basic techniques of the principles of scientific approach to archaeological problems. Main topics Provenance and age determination by material characterization.
