Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to develop an understanding of the role of tectonic processes in the formation and evolution of landforms. It is designed to equip students with the ability to analyze the impacts of both active and paleotectonic processes on topography and to comprehend the dynamics of natural structures. The effects of tectonic deformations on landforms, the morphological expressions of fault and fold structures, and the surface imprints of these processes will be explored.

Course Content

The course examines the role of tectonic processes in the formation of landforms. The effects of tectonic structures such as faults, folds, grabens, and horsts on landforms are detailed. Active tectonic, neotectonic processes, and earthquake-induced land deformation impacts on topography are explored. Additionally, the relationships between river system morphology and tectonic movements are assessed. The course includes field studies and practical applications for analyzing related processes.
