Course Goal / Objective

This course aims to understand the economic dimensions of environmental problems and the design and implementation of fiscal policies to address these problems. By addressing the concepts of environmental economics, the principles of sustainable development and how environmental policies can be supported by economic instruments, the course aims to provide students with analytical skills to bridge the gap between public finance and environmental management.

Course Content

The course introduces the basic concepts of environmental economics and topics such as externalities. It examines sustainable development and environment-economy relationship. It deals with the economic analysis of environmental problems. Discusses market failures and environmental externalities. Evaluates the role of environmental taxes and subsidies. Analyses emission trading and quota systems. Analyses the link between public finance and environmental policies. Analyses the economic management of natural resources. Discusses the economic impacts of climate change. Evaluates green and circular economy models. Provides applied analyses with case studies. Analyses environmental policies and fiscal instruments in Turkey.
