General Information

Students are required to complete 180-240 ECTS credits during their education in the program, 96 of which are thesis studies in the last four semesters and the rest of the Master's degree courses and seminars. In the last four semesters, they prepare a PhD thesis in the fields of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition in the fields of Soil Survey Mapping, Soil Genesis, Soil Chemistry, Soil Physics, Soil Mineralogy, Soil Biology, Soil Fertility and Plant Nutrition. During the program, the students must complete 180-240 ECTS, 96 ECTS of which from thesis. Having prepared a PhD Thesis in different areas of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition such as Soil Survey and Mapping, Soil Genesis, Soil Chemistry, Soil Physics, Soil Mineralogy, Soil Biology, Soil Fertility, and Plant Nutrition, the students graduate as a PhD fulfilling the requirements of either the governmental or private sectors or graduate to serve as a researcher in the academic world.

Feature & Definition

The Program aims to educate either "Certificated Agricultural Engineer" or "Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Specialist" at a PhD level to fulfil the expectations and needs of governmental and private sectors. One of the basic targets of the Program is to equip students with knowledge on classification of soils as well as enabling them to use this knowledge on ecological principles and conservation of them against environmental pollution and misuses, preparation of healthy and balanced plant nutrition programs suitable for our ecological system by carrying on soil fertility and plant nutritional studies, and sustainable utilization and management of soil, plant, and water resources, at PhD level. Moreover, laboratories and greenhouses at Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Department and research fields at Agricultural Research and Application Farm located next to the campus (The region Çukurova, one of the most fertile three plains in the world) provide students with better educational facilities.

For sustainable environment and plant production, the training of experts in Soil Science and Plant Nutrition at PhD level

Objectives

Using the scientific truths, training of agricultural scientists at PhD level in providing solutions to the soil-water-environmental problems, ensuring the use of the soils in accordance with their characteristics and improving soil fertility to increase crop productivity depending on the principles of sustainable production

Specific Admission Requirements

The students can apply to this program providing ALES score, grade point averages (BSc and MSc), foreign languace score and interview in accordance with the regulations of “Çukurova University Graduate Education and Examination Committee” and can pursue their education in their or in related fields.

Qualification Awarded

The students who have successfully accomplished this program gain the PhD degree of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition.

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

For students who are accepted to a doctoral program with a master's degree with thesis, at least seven credit courses, with a total of at least twenty-one credits and 60 ECTS in one academic term (total of fall and spring semesters); consists of seminar course, specialization courses, proficiency exam, thesis proposal and thesis work and cannot be less than 240 ECTS credits. Provided that the thesis defense is successful and the other conditions determined by the related institute board of directors are met, the student who submits three more bound copies of the doctoral thesis than the number of jury members within one month from the date of the thesis exam and whose thesis is found suitable in terms of form is entitled to receive a doctoral diploma.

The graduates of the program can work for Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Departments of universities, Research Insitutes of the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, Ziraat Bank(State bank to support agriculture), State Water Affairs, Municipalities, Agro-Chemical Companies, Official and Private Laboratories for Soil, Plant and Fertilizer Analyses, Fertilizer Industry, Private Farms and Greenhouses as well as a Franchiser for seed and agro-chemicals. Moreover, the Agricultural Engineers authorized for the preparation of Soil Survey and Mapping, Soil Conservation and Land Use Projects which are obligatory according to the Act for Soil Conservation and Land Use numbered 5403 are the graduates of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition Program.
