Karaisalı Vocational School was established in 1995 in Karaisalı district, which is 50 km away from Adana and Çukurova University Campus. The Department of Plant and Animal Production started its Greenhouse Program education in the 1997-1998 academic year. The aim of the program is to train human resources who can use rapidly developing technological applications in the cultivation of vegetables and ornamental plants in our country, who follow the occupational health and safety instructions needed for the agricultural sector, and who are sensitive to environmental rules.

Feature & Definition

Çukurova is a region where plant cultivation is carried out in the open and under cover with modern methods, due to its climate and location characteristics. The application area and greenhouses for production and research purposes within the school provide opportunities for the production of many types and varieties of vegetables and ornamental plants. The program trains human resources who know the cultivation and production techniques of plants related to their field and have marketing skills. Lessons are given theoretically and practically, and in applied courses, students are involved in one-on-one production. Vocational courses taught in the program are carried out by current permanent faculty members.

Goals

The aim of the Greenhouse Program is to train intermediate staff who can use the rapidly developing technological applications in greenhouse cultivation in our country. Within the scope of the program, all technical and practical information about plant cultivation and production in the open and under cover is given. Cultivation techniques for vegetables and ornamental plants grown in these areas, plant nutrition and fertilization methods, production and propagation techniques, organic farming and soilless farming techniques, technical issues such as pruning, spraying, harvesting, diseases, pests and weeds and control methods, greenhouse installation. and issues related to its operation are discussed in detail.

Objectives

The objective of the program is to provide an educational infrastructure suitable for the needs of the age by following the technological developments in the field of greenhouse cultivation and to carry out our education and training activities based on the subjects needed in the field, to provide a leading education at national and international level that can apply innovations in this regard, produce solutions to the problems of the society and thus provide public education. and to train highly qualified Agricultural Technicians who can meet the needs of the private sector.

Specific Admission Requirements

Students are accepted to this program with the placement result document issued by the Assessment, Selection and Placement Center (ÖSYM).

Qualification Awarded

Students who successfully complete the program get an 'Associate degree'. People who complete the program receive the title of Agricultural Technician.

Qualification Requirements of Graduation

To be successful in this program, students are required to successfully complete all the courses to meet a minimum of 120 ECTS credit requirement and have a minimum of GPA of 2.00/4.00.

Access to Further Studies

Students who successfully complete their associate degree education in this program can continue their education in undergraduate programs related to their program by taking the Vertical Transfer Exams (DGS).

Internship

30 work day. Students are employed in various departments of the Faculty of Agriculture of the universities and in public and private institutions such as the central and provincial organizations affiliated to the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Agricultural Research Institutes, parks and horticultural units of municipalities and in companies producing especially vegetable and ornamental plants, they have the possibility to do.

Applied Course

In practical courses, the production, cultivation, care, reproduction and harvest of various vegetables and ornamental plants are carried out in the open and under greenhouse conditions. The current field of practice in our school allows department students to be informed in an environment that integrates research, practice and education. Within the scope of the program, technical visits are organized to the vegetable and ornamental plant greenhouses in the region so that students can closely follow the developments in the sector.

Work Placement

There is no workplace training in the program.

Double Major, Additional Major & Exchange Possibilities

Greenhouse Program students; In accordance with the agreements and protocols made between other higher education institutions abroad or in the country, they can study for one or two semesters in other relevant higher education institutions. These students are required to have accomplished all their previous educational activities. Courses, practices, internships and similar activities that students will continue in these higher education institutions; The equivalence of the student to the courses, practices, internships and similar activities in his/her own curriculum is determined in advance by the decision of the board of directors upon the recommendation of the advisor and the relevant department head/program advisor. Exchange Programs vary in terms of their purposes and operations.

Employment Opportunities

Students graduating from the Greenhouse Program; They can be employed as Agricultural Technicians in seed, pesticide and fertilizer companies, in enterprises that grow seedlings, vegetables and ornamental plants, in relevant public institutions within the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, and in public institutions such as parks and gardens units of municipalities. They can establish business areas operating in this field in the light of the information they have learned.
