Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to integrate new narrative forms produced through videographic methods as academic research tools in film studies and explore how these methods can be used in film criticism and academic production. Students will gain the ability to apply videographic research methodologies in practice by analyzing new formats such as video essay and academic filmmaking. The course aims to encourage not only written but also audiovisual engagement with film theories, fostering knowledge production through creative practice.

Course Content

This course explores experimental methods in film studies, focusing on knowledge production through videographic tools. It examines the methodological and theoretical foundations of new formats such as video essay, videographic criticism, and academic filmmaking. The course also introduces the application of performative methodologies in film research, encouraging students to develop an argument and apply it in a visual-audio research method. Students will analyze how video essay and videographic criticism function as knowledge production tools within cinema and media studies. Additionally, they will engage in practical projects to apply these methodologies in their own videographic research. The course provides a methodological research space centered on film theory, audiovisual analysis, and creative academic production.
