Course Goal / Objective

To teach students and ensure their understanding of the basic terms used in the field of health sciences and health services. It provides a core set of knowledge and skills for those working in healthcare and provides an important foundation for effective communication and practice in healthcare.

Course Content

Introduction and Basic Concepts The importance of healthcare terminology Definitions and usage of basic health terms Body Systems and Terms Terms of the digestive, respiratory, circulatory, urinary, nervous, endocrine and reproductive systems Diseases and Health Conditions Terminology related to infectious diseases, chronic diseases, genetic diseases and health conditions Medical Examination and Diagnostic Methods Medical examination terms, imaging methods, laboratory tests and diagnostic procedures Health Services and Professions Basic terms used in health services, health professions and areas of expertise Health Law and Ethics Medical ethics principles, patient rights and health law terms Current Health Issues Pandemics, environmental health, public health and preventive health terminology Comprehensive Review and Evaluation
