Course Goal / Objective
This course aims to provide students with knowledge and skills in ceramic surface design and decorative applications. Through the study of laser printing and photocopy transfer techniques, students will explore how these methods can be used as a conceptual tool in contemporary ceramic art. The primary objective of the course is to help students understand the relationship between material, surface, and form, guiding them to develop personal artistic narratives using ceramic decoration techniques. By experimenting with alternative printing techniques on ceramic surfaces, students will discover new approaches to enhance artistic expression. Additionally, students will engage in research, analyze the connection between conceptual art and ceramic decoration, strengthen their artistic vision, and develop professional presentation skills. By the end of the course, students will present their completed projects in a portfolio, demonstrating their technical expertise and artistic thinking in ceramic decoration design.
Course Content
This course aims to enhance students' ability to use decorative techniques on ceramic surfaces, strengthening their expressive potential through material application. The course focuses on laser printing and photocopy transfer techniques, guiding students in developing two concept-driven projects that integrate contemporary ceramic decoration techniques with conceptual art practices. In the first half of the semester, students will apply laser printing on moist clay surfaces, developing a contemporary ceramic project. Throughout this process, they will explore conceptual art, surface design, and ceramic decoration methods through research and experimentation. In the second half, students will learn photocopy transfer techniques and create a unique ceramic form inspired by a chosen concept, integrating surface design and print application. The course will examine how these techniques are applied in ceramic art and their contemporary interpretations, allowing students to refine their projects with both artistic and technical awareness. Throughout the semester, students will explore the relationship between material and surface, experimenting with decorative ceramic methods, writing artist statements, and developing presentation techniques. By the end of the course, students will present their completed projects in a portfolio, gaining professional skills in artistic and design-focused presentation.
