Course Goal / Objective

Understands the basic terminology and forms related to the history of clothing that emerged from the cultural, social and artistic aspects of a period.

Course Content

It covers the subjects of Hittite, Phrygian, Urartu, Hellenistic Period Art, Roman Art, Byzantine Art and Istanbul, Seljuk and Ottoman Arts and the arts of the westernization period.

LO01 Define the concepts of fashion (fashion, anti fashion, unfashionable, unisex, haute couture, etc.). Explain the role of fashion in the understanding of cultural and social identity.
LO02 Understands the basic terminology and forms of historical clothing.
LO03 To be able to compare clothing and accessories in terms of cultural values Explains the scope of fashion, stages of fashion process, fashion theories, fashion cycle, and fashion process.
LO04 Can relate the concept of fashion in terms of cultural interaction, sexual identity, class and status. Explain the phenomenon of visibility in fashion (pioneers, non-fashion) and make comments on the extinction of fashion.
LO05 Students will be able to identify the basic terminology of historical dress from primitive cultures to the early 20th century, both globally and locally.
LO06 Students will be able to collect information about historical changes and developments in clothing.
LO07 20. knows the importance of the use of historical research of garment designs until the early 20th century.
LO08 Students will be able to identify important icon figures and changing silhouettes that changed the history of clothing
LO09 Students will have knowledge about the national and folkloric elements of our own cultural dress forms.
