Course Goal / Objective

The general aim of the course is to provide an understanding of the basic terminology and forms related to the history of clothing that has emerged since the primitive cultures in the process until the beginning of the 20th century in the direction of understanding the cultural, social and artistic structure of a period.

Course Content

In this course; basic terminology and forms of historical clothing, historical research of clothing designs from the primitive period to the early 20th century and the importance of its use.Starting from the first civilisations to the present day, it is to give students a visual perspective and to provide an evaluation perspective. Hittite, Phrygian, Urartu, Hellenistic Period Art, Roman Art, Byzantine Art and Istanbul are covered. Information about the Seljuk and Ottoman Arts and the arts of the westernisation period is given.

LO05 Students will be able to identify the basic terminology of historical dress from primitive cultures to the early 20th century, both globally and locally.
LO06 Students will be able to collect information about historical changes and developments in clothing.
LO07 20. knows the importance of the use of historical research of garment designs until the early 20th century.
LO08 Students will be able to identify important icon figures and changing silhouettes that changed the history of clothing
LO09 Students will have knowledge about the national and folkloric elements of our own cultural dress forms.
LO10 Ottoman Dynasty Style (1299/1923): Knows the Ottoman Empire and the Westernisation Period.
