Course Goal / Objective

The press is the main instrument of the society's freedom of information. One of the ways of exercising this freedom is the constitutional order. This course aims to discuss how freedom of the press is dealt with in the constitutional order. In this context, constitutions from the past to the present and the political and social process in which these constitutions were drafted will be analysed. Thus, the student is expected to learn the changes of freedom of the press in the constitutions and to gain a critical perspective.

Course Content

The course covers the concept of freedom of the press in the constitutions from the Ottoman Empire to the present day, the political and social conditions of the period and the reflection of these conditions on the constitutions. The first constitutional activities of the Ottoman Empire, the first constitution, the legal processes, constitutions and political power and conditions of the Republican period are within the scope of the course.
