Course Goal / Objective

There are social tensions such as economic, social and political explosions, panics and mass movements specific to periods of depression that occur in a society. It is important to understand the action patterns that have occurred in Turkey and the world throughout the historical process and are based on certain social norms. In this context, students will be taught the historical and theoretical foundations of social movements; they will be provided with the ability to analyze different types of social movements; they will be provided with a critical perspective to evaluate the effects of social movements on social change; they will be provided with an understanding of the role of social movements in global and local contexts; their skills to explain the processes of participation in social movements and organization will be developed.

Course Content

The nature of social movement. Differences in concepts related to the concept of social movement. Components of social movements: ideology; leaders and followers; strategy and tactics. Possibilities of social movements and social movement organization. Stages in social movements and the career of social movements. Types of social movements. Main modes of rejecting the social order. Social movement theories. From old to new social movements. Anti-globalization social movements.
