Course Goal / Objective

Explain epigenetic mechanisms comprehensively from both conceptual and experimental perspectives. Design experiments and analyze data using advanced epigenomic technologies. Interpret epigenetic alterations in the context of animal productivity, health, and environmental adaptation. Integrate epigenomic findings into sustainable livestock practices while evaluating ethical and regulatory dimensions.

Course Content

This doctoral-level course examines molecular epigenetic mechanisms and their impact on animal health, productivity, environmental adaptation, and sustainable breeding strategies. Students gain an in-depth understanding of DNA methylation, histone modifications, chromatin remodeling, nucleosome dynamics, non-coding RNA networks, and their regulatory interactions. Emphasis is placed on cutting-edge epigenomic technologies (WGBS, ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, Hi-C), bioinformatic workflows, experimental design, critical literature appraisal, and the integration of epigenetic data into livestock-breeding programs. Through laboratory exercises and case studies, participants develop the competence to interpret epigenetic datasets and propose evidence-based improvements for production, health, and welfare.
