Course Goal / Objective

The aim of this course is to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the impacts of climate change on agricultural production and to equip them with the skills to develop sustainable agricultural practices and climate adaptation strategies. The course will cover the basic dynamics of the climate system, the regional and global effects of climate change, pressures on soil and water resources, vulnerabilities in agricultural systems, and adaptation strategies within the framework of sustainable development principles. By the end of the course, students will be able to assess climate-related risks, propose solutions, and effectively participate in decision-making processes concerning climate change and sustainability in agriculture.

Course Content

Climate change exerts increasing pressure on the quantity, quality, and distribution of water resources, posing critical risks especially for the agricultural sector. This course aims to examine the impacts of climate change on agricultural water management from a scientific perspective by comprehensively addressing changes in the water cycle, strategies for water use in agriculture, and the sustainable management of water resources. Topics such as rainwater harvesting, water footprint analysis, and innovative practices to improve water use efficiency in agricultural production will also be covered. The course is designed to help students understand climate-adaptive water management approaches, develop effective strategies for water use, and design sustainable agricultural systems. Supported by both theoretical knowledge and practical examples, the content will contribute to students' competencies in managing water resources and planning under climate risk in the agricultural sector.
