Course Goal / Objective

To introduce the influence of women on governance in early Islamic history.

Course Content

The situation of women in the early periods of Islam and some exemplary women who were influential in the administration of the Umayyads and Abbasids are introduced.

LO05 Provides information about women who were influential in the administration during the Abbasid period and introduces some of these women by giving examples.
LO06 Explains with examples the concubines and ummuwaled of the caliphs who were influential in the administration during the Umayyad and Abbasid periods.
LO07 Explains the differences between the status, position and leadership of women during the strong and weak periods of the Abbasids.
