Course Goal / Objective
This course aims to teach the definition, measurement methods and analysis of economic, fiscal and social indicators; to understand and evaluate the role of these indicators in public finance and policy making processes.
Course Content
The course introduces the basic concepts and importance of economic, fiscal and social indicators. It examines the measurement methods of economic indicators (GDP, inflation, unemployment) and their role in economic analysis. It deals with the definition and analysis of fiscal indicators (budget deficit, public debt, tax burden). Discusses the measurement of social indicators (poverty, income distribution, education level) and their relationship with social welfare. Evaluates the data sources and international standards of indicators. Analyses the role of indicators in public finance policies. Analyses the current status and trends of economic indicators in Turkey. Discusses the effects of fiscal indicators on public finance in Turkey. Evaluates the relationship between social indicators and social policies in Turkey. Makes comparative analysis of global economic indicators. Examines how global fiscal and social indicators are used by international organisations. Discusses the link between indicators and sustainable development goals.
